Within the scope of an international kick-off event in Papenburg the Interreg VA project ‘LNG pilots’ has started on 18th November 2016.
Under the leadership of Energy Valley (Groningen) about 35 partners from North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and the Netherlands have joined forces to promote the introduction of LNG as an alternative fuel in freight transport across borders. The use of LNG as a fuel in inland navigation and for heavy goods vehicles is expected to improve climate and environmental balance as well as economic benefits.
In this project, analyses for a trimodal infrastructure (heavy commercial vehicles / trucks, inland waterways vessels, industrial applications) are carried out in ports as well as the possibilities for biogas use are investigated. In addition, logistics concepts for the German-Dutch border area are to be developed and technical innovations in the field of tank technology are to be further developed.
The work of the DST focuses on the use of LNG operated power packs for the shore side electricity of inland vessels.
