Expanding offshore competence in NRW
From 33 proposals in the second round of the competition „Research Infrastructures NRW“, the concept Offshore-Kompetenz.NRW of the DST was selected along with 10 other contributions. DST was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) between April 2018 and June 2021 to expand the existing test facilities in the context of „Green Offshore“.
The expansion of the research infrastructure of the DST regarding questions of the interaction between ship technology and offshore energy production allows a connection between ship and marine technology research and energy research. The existing test and measurement facilities with their focus on shallow water hydrodynamics are highly qualified for this purpose and the institute can already provide significant expertise in this sector, which has been developed in national and international research projects. An Europe-wide unique research facility was created, which is a sustainable boost for the research and production location NRW in the field of onshore and offshore wind energy.
The following individual measures were implemented:
- New wave generator in the deep water basin
- Cable robot for modeling of wind loads
- A submersible stereo PIV system
- Test bed for ship-structure-soil interaction
- Upgrade oft he existing PMM system
- New motion tracking system
Project duration:
- April 2018 – June 2021
